We are a Sacramental Church

We are a sacramental church. Each sacrament is an outward, visible sign of the invisible but real grace that God bestows upon us in each of these encounters. As we read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Christ instituted the sacraments of the new law. There are seven: Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Penance (Reconciliation), the Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony. The seven sacraments touch all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life: they give birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian's life of faith.” (CCC #1210)

For each of the sacraments there is a process of preparation. Prior to the celebration of each, we take time to sit down with one another to reflect on the theology and origin of each sacrament and the significance that they can have in our lives.

New Paragraph

Centered

on the
Eucharist

We are a eucharistic church, which means that the celebration of the Holy Eucharist is at the heart of our worship and community life. In the Eucharist, we gather to remember and partake in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the sharing of bread and wine. This sacred meal unites us with Christ and with one another, nourishing our faith and sending us out to serve the world in love.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

O.C.I.A

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process for adults who desire to join the Catholic faith and for those seeking more information on the Catholic Church. OCIA can also be a method for Catholics to complete their reception of the initiation sacraments. The manual used in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults states that the rite is designed for adults “who after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God.” The manual also states when speaking about those in the process “By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and at the proper time receive the sacraments fruitfully.”
